So while everyone was watching the opening ceremony of the 2008 olympics, WE were HERE...at the beautiful Ka'anapali Beach in Maui
We arrived to Maui late in the evening only to find that most places were closed as far as food in Lahaina where we were staying at. Good thing everything was walking distance...too bad we were so hungry we just walked back to our room and slept off our hunger until the morning. haha. So in Hawaii, you have to take advantage of the calm waters in the morning to do any kind of water activity...so much for sleeping in during your vacation, huh? Trust me, the earlier you start, the better!
Day 1: food run in Lahaina Town
Day 2: shopping, sight seeing, museum, cliff diving, grocery shopping (food is HELLA expensive!)
Day 3: eat, Honolua Bay, shopping, get dark, Aloha Mixed Plate
Day 4: Sunrise at Haleakala (freezing...i swear we were in Maui not Mammoth!), drive to Hana, Kobe Steakhouse
Day 5: kayak, turtles, snorkel, Big Beach, eat, get even darker, Old Lahaina Luau
Day 6: Aqua Adventure, mistaken for locals
Day 7: security check/extra pat down (how did we get chosen?...lame!)
Sunrise at Haleakala... This was a must see that EVERYONE back home practically told us we had to do in Maui. I can now say we have experienced it, but I don't think I would ever do it again unless I was wearing a parka of some sort or better yet, my snowboarding gear. I came to Maui for the hot sun, not the freezing cold weather...I can get that at Big Bear. Haha. I guess we didn't wear as many layers as we thought, because the wind factor didn't make it any better standing on top of an existing volcanic lava. The drive to Haleakala was ridiculously long with the never ending stairway to heaven.
Hana Highway... The drive to Hana was an amazing experience...uh yah, took us about 3 hours on top of the 2 and half hour to haleakala for the sunrise...thanks to the hubby for driving the entire way! The lush gardens and the tropical feel of it all was like entering jurassic park overlooking the ocean. It was so surreal to see such an amazing view. Our final destination was to hike over to the seven sacred pools...funny how the name came about...it's not 7 pools and they're not sacred. Owner of a hotel nearby Hana wanted to entice his guests to his resort by renaming the Oheo Gulch to the Seven Sacred Pools...wouldn't you wanna see that name plastered on a brochure rather than something you can't even pronounce? That's smart advertising!

fobby signOld Lahaina Luau... Ono Food, awesome locals, good times! A traditional luau set in the heart of Lahaina Town, the Old Lahaina Luau was like no other. We had the opportunity to sit up close in traditional mat seating with beautiful people dancing in front of us. Holler!

Sad to leave Maui...until we meet again...We weren't totally out of the loop, we managed to take a glimpse of some of the olympic highlights, including the awesome world breaking Michael Phelps!
And that concludes our trip...it's olympics time! holler!
